Week 6 of Year four 

This week has been a busy and exciting one in Year 4!

In both Reading and English, we have started exploring our new text, Jack and the Baked Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed discovering the story and will be using it to inspire their learning over the coming weeks.

We also had a wonderful visit to the woods as part of our Art lessons. During the visit, the children gathered ideas and inspiration for their upcoming project, where they will be creating and illustrating their own Honey, I Shrunk the Kids-themed comic stories. Using the natural environment, alongside the models they have been making, helped the children to imagine what the world might look like from a tiny perspective.

We are looking forward to seeing their creative comic illustrations come to life next week!

Week 5 of Year four 

We have had a very busy week in Ash Class!

In English, we have concluded our Place Value of Punctuation and Grammar work and are looking forward to applying everything we have learned to our writing next week.

In Maths, it has been all about rounding. We found some of the learning tricky at times, but the children showed some wonderful perseverance and kept going even when things felt challenging.

In Art, we have worked hard on our Harvest sketches, carefully developing our drawing and shading skills.

A particular highlight of the week was our Boogie Bounce sessions! We had great fun bouncing, moving and trying out different jumps in the sunshine.

Well done, Ash Class, for another fantastic week of learning!

Week 4 of Year four 

This week we have continued to work on our place value of numbers, and have been able to order, compare and also estimate numbers on a number line- with numbers up to four digits. 

Within our English we have continued to apply our knowledge of subjects and verbs- and have written some lovely sentences! 

In Science we created an investigation linked to our bodies, answering the question- do people with the longest legs jump the furthest? 

Week 2 of Year four 

Another fantastic week in Year 4! In English, we have been exploring different types of nouns, including proper, common, quantitative and collective nouns. We have been learning how each type of noun is used and have enjoyed identifying them in sentences and creating examples of our own.

In Maths, we have been reviewing our understanding of place value. We have been thinking carefully about the value of each digit in a number and practising placing numbers accurately on number lines. We have also been developing our reasoning skills by explaining how we know where numbers belong.

We have also started some new topics, and particularly enjoyed art- where we looked at creating our own illustrations for the story "the Promise". 

Week 1 of Year four 

What a fantastic start to the new school year we have had in Ash Class! The children have settled into Year 4 brilliantly and have already impressed us with their positive attitudes. They have been listening carefully, working hard and getting to know all of our new classroom routines and expectations.

In English, we have been focusing on taking pride in the presentation of our work and practising our neatest handwriting. We have also started our first piece of story writing, using lots of lovely ideas and vocabulary to make our writing interesting for the reader.

In Maths, we have combined our learning with getting to know our new classmates a little better! We collected data about each other, asking questions and recording our findings, before learning how to present the information clearly in a bar chart.

In Science, we have already begun our first unit of the year, learning about the human skeleton. We had great fun working together to draw around our friends to create life-sized bodies before adding a skeleton and identifying and labelling some of the key bones.

It has certainly been a busy first week, but a really positive one. We are very proud of how well everyone has settled in and what a brilliant start they have made to Year 4 in Ash Class!
