Week 7

Willow Class have had another busy week of learning!

In Maths, we have continued to practise our addition skills, focusing on exchanging ones and tens. The children have been developing their understanding of how numbers can be regrouped to help them solve calculations. We have also taken our learning outside, using chalk on the playground to practise our maths in a fun and practical way!

In English, we have been building up to our first independent write next week. We have been exploring Jack and the Baked Beanstalk, developing our ideas and practising the skills we will need to write our letters.

Well done, Willow Class, for another great week of learning! 🌟

Week 6

Willow Class have had another fantastic week of learning!

βž• Maths: We have been learning how to use the column method for addition. The children have been developing their skills in setting out calculations carefully and adding numbers together using this method.

🎨 Art: Inspired by Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, the children have been creating their own imaginative stories! They designed their own characters and thought about what adventures they might have if they were suddenly shrunk. We headed out to the woods to bring our ideas to life! The children took photographs of their tiny figures in the woodland setting, creating some fantastic images to help illustrate their stories. Their creativity and imagination have been brilliant!

Well done, Willow Class, for another busy and exciting week! 🌟

We have been practising our skipping skills, working on our coordination, rhythm and technique. The children have been developing their confidence and perseverance as they practised different skipping techniques.

We have begun our new addition and subtraction unit. The children have been exploring different methods and strategies for adding and subtracting numbers, using practical resources to help develop their understanding.

In science, we have been investigating whether the length of a person's legs affects how far they can jump. The children made predictions, carried out their experiment and collected results to see if people with longer or shorter legs jumped the furthest. It was great to see the children working scientifically and discussing what their results showed.

Week 3

Willow Class have had another busy and enjoyable week filled with lots of exciting learning!

In RE, we have been learning about Judaism and exploring the Jewish place of worship, the synagogue. The children have been learning about some of the important features found inside a synagogue and discussing why they are significant.

In Art, we have been exploring the work of illustrator and artist Shaun Tan, particularly his book The Arrival. The children have been inspired by his artistic style and have been creating their own artwork to show the passing of time. They used flowers and plants to show how things can change and grow over time, experimenting with their own drawings and ideas.

It has been wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm and creativity across all of our lessons this week. Well done, Year 3!

Week 2

We have had another fantastic week in Willow Class and the children have continued to settle brilliantly into Year 3!

We have started our first Science unit, Animals Including Humans, by learning all about the human skeleton. The children had lots of fun working in pairs, drawing around their friends and then carefully placing the bones of the skeleton where they thought they belonged. We have been learning about the important job our skeleton does, including supporting our bodies and protecting our organs.

In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value and learning how to build and represent three-digit numbers. The children have been using Base 10 equipment and place value counters to explore hundreds, tens and ones and understand the value of each digit within a number. It has been fantastic to see the children using practical resources to explain their mathematical thinking.

Well done, Willow Class, for another brilliant week of learning! 🌟

Week 1

What a fantastic first week back we have had in Willow Class! The children have settled in brilliantly and have quickly become familiar with our new routines and expectations. It has been lovely to see everyone coming into school ready to learn and enjoying being back together.

In English, we have been practising our handwriting and focusing on forming our letters carefully and consistently. We also used an image as inspiration to write our own creative stories, using our imaginations to develop interesting characters and exciting events.

In Maths, we have been exploring place value and developing our understanding of the value of each digit in a number. We have also been practising using number lines to help us understand numbers and their position.

In PSHE, we have been thinking about emotions in new situations. The children chose a new situation they might experience and created a comic strip showing what happens at the start, how they might feel, how they could manage the situation and how they might feel at the end. This gave us a great opportunity to talk about our emotions and the different strategies we can use to help us when faced with something new.

It has certainly been a busy week, but I am incredibly proud of how well the children have settled and the positive attitude they have shown towards their learning. Well done, Willow Class – you have had a fantastic first week!
